Calculating your pace, time or distance

Whether you're preparing for your first big ride or aiming for a distance goal, understanding the relationship between speed, time and distance helps you plan. Enter two values and the tool calculates the third.

Concrete examples

  • « How long to ride 50 km at 25 km/h? » → choose « Time ».
  • « How far can I go in 2 h at 22 km/h? » → choose « Distance ».
  • « What was my average speed? » → choose « Speed ».

Always allow a margin for elevation, wind and stops. To plan a real route with an elevation profile, use our route planner, and prepare for your first big goal with the « Conquering your first 100 km » chapter.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good average cycling speed?
For a recreational cyclist, 18-22 km/h on flat ground is typical. A trained cyclist holds 25-30 km/h, and a sporty group ride exceeds 30 km/h. Wind, elevation and bike type have a big influence on these numbers.
How do I estimate the time for a hilly ride?
Add 15 to 25% to the time calculated on the flat for a hilly route, and also factor in time for stops (fuelling, photos, traffic lights). The route planner gives a more accurate estimate with the elevation profile.
